I spend a fair amount of time in Travel Writing 2.0 discussing the dysfunctional and inefficient publishing system that authors have been working under for the past century or so and how it is crumbling before us as a viable earning option for most authors.

I’ll be the first to admit when someone else has done a better job of it though, so here goes.

Timothy Ferriss, the author of the deservedly successful book The 4-hour Workweek, is brilliant at looking at what’s wrong with a situation and trying to wake us out of our stupor. I’m not going to comment on it beyond the comment of mine you can find buried among the 170 so far that others have added underneath. This, and the Seth Godin post he links to, should be required reading for anyone who thinks putting out a paper book is a way to make real money. Have other reasons for doing it or you are sure to be disappointed.
